New Features
============

1.  Xerox TextBridge Pro96

dtSearch 4.1 adds support for Xerox's TextBridge Pro96 OCR
software (both the 32-bit and 16-bit versions).  Please
contact DT Software (see numbers below) if you wish to order
this product.

2.  HTML support

dtSearch 4.1 can index, search, and display HTML documents
with "live" hypertext links.  Click "Launch" in an HTML
document to view the document in your Web browser.
  
3.  Thesaurus

Choose "Thesaurus..." in the Options menu to create a
thesaurus to use in searching.  Each entry in the thesaurus
consists of a set of words that are all considered synonyms of
each other.  Synonym expansion works in combination with
stemming so that, if "search" is a synonym for "find," then
"searching," "searched," etc.  will also be synonyms for
"find."

To enable synonym expansion for a single search term, put an
ampersand (&) after the word in your search request, like
this: "find& and fast"

To enable synonym expansion for all search terms, check the
"Synonyms" checkbox in the Search dialog box.

4.  Database indexing

The 32-bit version of dtSearch supports indexing of Microsoft
Access (*.MDB), Paradox (*.DB), dBase (*.DBF), or FoxPro
(*.DBF) files if you have 32-bit ODBC drivers for these file
formats.  Users of Microsoft Office 95 will have these
drivers.  Other users can obtain them either from Microsoft or
from DT Software.

5.  Italics, underlining, and bold

dtSearch 4.1 will display italics, underlining, and bold font
attributes when displaying documents in the following formats:
HTML, WordPerfect 7, WordPerfect 6.x, WordPerfect 5.x, and
Microsoft Rich Text Format.  These attributes are also saved
in text copied to the clipboard.

New Version dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine

The dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine enables developers to
directly incorporate dtSearch's proven, text retrieval
technology into their own products for the PC, LAN or Internet
server.  Commercial software incorporating the dtSearch Text
Retrieval Engine is in use on hundreds of thousands of
computers around the world.  

*  The engine includes an OLE automation server interface for easy
   use in Visual Basic.

*  A DLL interface provides for easy use from C++ and C.

New Version dtSearch Electronic Publishers Toolkit
==================================================

The Toolkit includes a search-only version of dtSearch for
distribution with a text database on a CD-ROM or floppy disk.
The Toolkit now has HTML support, giving the electronic
publisher:

*  "live" hypertext links in dtSearch for easy movement through
   the database
   
*  display of basic formatting (italics, underlining, bold,
   center, indent, etc.) for optimal appearance
   
*  launch capabilities, so the user can click on an icon to
   send an e-mail, download updates, see the publisher's Web
   site, etc.
   
*  ability to work in an industry-standard format, so the same
   database will work on the Web and other media
   
*  access to a wide variety of easy-to-use HTML editing tools
